2. Public Launch

Focus Group Seminar

The seminar started at 10 am in Phoolwari , Pragati Maidan. The seminar was presided by Rev. Dino Touthang, Treasurer Micah Challenge India. The welcome address was given by Rev. CB Samuel Chairman Micah Challenge India

This seminar was aimed at gathering key people working in specific developmental fields such as

1. Poverty
2. Education
3. Gender
4. Health
5. Environment

The Seminar was further sub divided into two parts

1. Paper presentation on the above topics keeping in mind the challenges of MDG and the role of Faith Based groups
2. Focus Group Discussions

The papers were presented on the above fields by following resource persons

Dr. Gabriel Gonsalves on Poverty
Mr. Kennedy Dhanabalan on Education
Ms. Leela Manasseh on Gender
Dr. Varghese Phillip on Health
Dr. Vijay Anand & Dr. Moses on Environment

After the paper presentations were done, these papers acted as a guide line for the discussion and the groups were moderated by the paper presenters. The focus group derived several suggestions and recommendations from their discussions. These recommendations were compiled into a consolidated report to be presented for the public launch

The opening prayer was conducted by Rev. Richard Howell, Co Chair Micah Challenge India. The welcome address was rendered by Mr. CB Samuel in which the Micah Challenge India and its role was highlighted to the delegates.

Micah Challenge India has conducted a research on the status of India in reference to MDGs, which was presented by Ms. Bonnie Prasad. This presentation revealed the status of India vis-à-vis all the eight Millennium Development Goals.

Dr. Rajnikant Arole in his address brought a human face to all the figures and statistics provided by the research. Arch Bishop Vincent Concessao also confirmed the role of the church in achieving the MDGs.

The recommendations of the focus group was also presented by Ms. Shiela George. This was followed by the launch of Micah challenge India website and the poster. This was presented to Dr. Arole by the Arch Bishop.

The Public Launch was attended by over 200 people and concluded with dinner
